What inspired you to write your memoir?
Ever since childhood, my life has been a detective story as I tried to solve the mystery of who I am and who came before me. No one in my family was talking. The less they told me, the more I wanted to know. When I finally went to the land of my ancestors, it all became clear. I had to write the book.
About your Book:
My grandmother came from a tiny dot on the map named Minkowitz. All she told me were six tiny facts, six clues to the life she left behind. All my life, I pursued those six facts. Everyone rolled their eyes at my obsession with Minkowitz. But when I found out that my fiancé came from the same speck of land, the same village, I knew I was destined to find it and go there. What happened to me in Minkowitz changed my life, my marriage, and set me on a path to encourage others to solve the mystery of where they come from, who they love, and, ultimately, who they are.
How did you decide how to publish your book and where is it published through:
My first two books were published by traditional publishers. Two years ago, my last publisher went out of business. i was on the road, teaching and giving talks. There was no time to find another publisher, so I published it myself. I sold a lot of books. So this time I decide to self-publish from the get-go. I used createspace, kindle, and smash words. When I say “I,” I mean that I hired people to do the hands-on publishing, design the cover, etc.
How do you see writing a Memoir as different from writing other genres of books?
The other genres I write with my heart and my head. This one, I wrote with my guts. It is as honest, as close-to-the-bone, as funny, as sad as I can possibly be.
