What inspired you to write your memoir?
A series of amazing miraculous coincidences, caused by a tragic mountain climbing accident, completely changed the way I think and believe. I felt driven to share my experiences with others who have lost a loved one, especially a child, in the hope that they too could find a measure of hope and comfort from my story.
About your Book:
Gary Gray was a free spirit who loved nature and wilderness with all his heart until struck down by an avalanche while climbing in the North Cascades. The recovery of his body from the mountain three years later triggered a series of amazing and miraculous events that belies belief.
Roaring Mountain is the compelling and heartwarming true story of tragedy, hope, love and the mysterious forces and phenomena surrounding us that are beyond our understanding. It’s also the story of two journeys. The first is of a young man’s constant search for his own identity until it was ended by a tragic accident. The other is of his mother’s journey through grief and despair, and ultimately joy and peace. Both are stories of change and growth, of two people with contrasting lifestyles and often opposing ideas, but always connected by the strongest bonds of love, loyalty and respect
How did you decide how to publish your book and where is it published through:
My editor suggested I submit my story to Red Willow Books and I was lucky enough to be accepted. At the time I was very new to publishing. Self- publishing was just taking off like wildfire and I knew very little about it.
How do you see writing a Memoir as different from writing other genres of books?
I see Memoir as one chapter in a person’s life. Not a full biography, but a snippet of a life. It’s real. Fiction is quite different, although often based on facts. Fiction writers say fiction is easier. To me, it’s harder!
Author Bio:
I was born and educated in England and left there at the age of 20 to come to the US with a husband and baby. I’ve lived in Tucson for nearly 40 years and love it.
