What inspired you to write your memoir?
I nagged my long-suffering husband into relocating from the UK to Spain, back in 2004. We ended up settling in a tiny, crazy mountain village and our new life with the villagers inspired ‘Chickens, Mules and Two Old Fools’.
About your Book:
If Joe and Vicky had known what relocating to a tiny mountain village in Andalucia would really be like, they might have hesitated…
They have no idea of the culture shock in store. No idea they’ll become reluctant chicken farmers and own the most dangerous cockerel in Spain. No idea they’ll help capture a vulture or be rescued by a mule.
Will they stay, or return to the relative sanity of England?
How did you decide how to publish your book and where is it published through:
In 2009 I joined Authonomy and ‘Chickens’ shot up to the top in just six weeks. I’d never let strangers read my stuff before, but this gave me the confidence to publish. I researched massively, and taught myself how to set about it. I have always handled the publishing myself, apart from the final proofread, and have since published two sequels. All my books have become Amazon bestsellers and the latest one hit the New York Times bestseller list last month. Now Joe and I have founded Ant Press and authors come to us for help to get published.
How do you see writing a Memoir as different from writing other genres of books?
With fiction you have a free rein to allow your characters to do whatever you please. Real life isn’t like that. In my case, a memoir is a difficult juggling act where you tell the truth, open your heart but try not to offend the people you write about.
Author Bio:
Victoria Twead is a New York Times bestselling author living in a tiny, remote mountain village in Andalucía. Life with the villagers inspired her books, which tell of how she and Joe became reluctant chicken farmers and owned the most dangerous cockerel in Spain.
In 2010, Victoria and Joe accepted a one-year teaching position in Bahrain, totally unaware that the Arab revolution was poised to erupt. The result was another bestselling book, ‘Two Old Fools on a Camel’.
Victoria and Joe continue to enjoy life keeping chickens, writing, publishing books, sampling the local wine and living alongside their colourful neighbours.
