What inspired you to write your memoir?
My wife and I wanted to move to Cyprus and in 2008 we managed to sell our house in the UK, at a big loss, and left England as the credit crunch began to bite. We were nearing retirement and wanted an easier life, but moving from England to Cyprus was so traumatic and so full of ups and downs that it prompted me to write about it.
About your Book:
My wife and I left Britain with our two Springer spaniels for a better life in Cyprus.
We arrived by plane at Larnaca airport and within minutes of landing the authorities had lost our two dogs.
Within weeks of arriving we had been evicted from our rented villa.
Within months of arriving our car blew up.
Within years of arriving the tiny Mediterranean island had gone bust and needed a bailout from the IMF & EU.
Was it something we said?
The hilarious account of our attempt to live the dream as expats in Cyprus where we have braved snakes, insects the size of rats, rats the size of dogs and more bush fires than we care to remember.
How did you decide how to publish your book and where is it published through:
I decided that publishing on Kindle was the best option. It didn’t seem that the subject matter would appeal to mainstream publishers and I had already had other titles published and selling on Kindle. Since then it’s now on Smashwords and through them in all major eBook retailers.
How do you see writing a Memoir as different from writing other genres of books?
The experience of moving to Cyprus was still fresh, raw almost, that writing the book was more a cathartic move than a view to publishing.
