What inspired you to write your memoir?
Many people told me how inspiring my story was and that I needed to write it because they believed that it could help others to overcome whatever problems they had suffered from.
About your Book:
How Tragedy, Abandonment and Murder Led To Happiness!
Every morning I wake up and say, “It’s great to be alive”. When you read my story you will understand why.
In 2004, at age 64, I was diagnosed with an untreatable and incurable lung disease called Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. I was given a “Death Sentence” with an estimated life expectancy of six months to two years. This diagnosis came after a life filled with tragedies, multiple abandonments, a murder of my wife and my attempted suicide.
My Grandmother died giving birth at the age of 31. My Mom was born a “Deaf-Mute” and abandoned because her family considered her handicapped. At age 21, she was raped and I was born of that rape and abandoned. She later married a Deaf-Mute from California and I went to live with them. Less than six months later, her husband filed for a divorce to force my Mom to find another home for me. Mom had a friend in Texas who supposedly couldn’t have children and that friend started adoption proceedings. Just before the end of the six months waiting period for an adoption to become final, she got pregnant and cancelled the adoption. Mom then took me to Louisiana to live with her Brother. Less than six months, he died and I was again homeless leaving my Mother no other choice but to turn me over to the State. A friend drove us to the welfare office early the next morning. Mom pinned a note on my shirt with my name and told me to knock on the front door. I turned around and saw the car driving away. I was four years old.
I graduated from High School at 17 and worked my way through college. I married during my senior year. My in-laws refused to attend our wedding and never accepted me into their family. Years later my wife was murdered. My Grandson was killed at 15 and I attempted suicide at age 49. I turned my life around by finding God and the answer for “Happiness”. That answer was “Forgiveness” and it took me three years to totally accept it. I was now 52 and I began twelve years of the happiest time of my life.
Then my diagnosis of I.P.F. and I searched the internet, finding a doctor in Germany that had a laboratory. He analyzed my blood and prepared a serum. I was cured 16 months later but leaving me with a lung capacity of 57%. I wrote a book titled; “Does God Give Us More Than We Can Bear?” Zig Ziglar wrote my foreword. It became an Amazon best seller in July, 2011.
I now make speeches, do radio and television shows. I wrote my 3rd book that is due out this fall titled; “Tragedy, Abandonment and Murder Led To Happiness”. It explains how “Forgiveness” was my answer.
I am available to speak to Church and civic groups and to others. For any information, please contact me at my e-mail address; firstname.lastname@example.org or my cell number; 214-681-5377.
I grew up in foster care and graduated from high school at age 17. I worked my way through college, starting at Louisiana State University, where I briefly worked as a page in the Louisiana State Capitol and then graduating at Northwestern State University in Louisiana with a B.S. degree in accounting in 1961.
After several years working as an accountant, I obtained my Certified public Accountant certificate. After 10 years as an accountant, I left the accounting profession and entered Real Estate industry.
In 1970, my first year in R.E., I made the Million Dollar Club. The second year I was promoted to Office Manager. In 1974 I opened my first of eight real estate offices. In 1974, I met my wife, who came to work for my office and we were married in 1975.
Together we have five children and fourteen grandchildren and great grandchildren. In June 2004, I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis, an untreatable and incurable lung disease and given six months to two years to live. My doctor told me, “You have A Death Sentence and there is no Hope, ANYWHERE WORLDWIDE”.
I began searching worldwide for a possible cure and in June 2006, we found a doctor in Germany who had a lab and was willing to analyze my blood and attempt to treat the disease. After several months of research, he produced a serum using my blood and two years later, I was cured.
In June, 2008,I semi-retired from real estate to write my book titled “Does God Give Us More Than We Can Bear?” In June 2010, I started public speaking about my story in order to reach out to others to offer them hope whether they were suffering from childhood traumas or diseases.
How did you decide how to publish your book and where is it published through:
I picked a Christian publishing company from the internet and they accepted my manuscript. It was the only publisher that I sent it to. Tate Publishing, Mustang, OK.
I couldn’t afford to self publish my book. So I gave it one shot, one publisher to see.
